Re: more stag questions

Hi George,
the 3 little 'L' shape pieces you found pop riveted to your windshield
frame would seem to be a factory fitted item. I found exactly the same
setup on my car when I restored it. Mine had the original rubber seal in
place and had slots moulded into the seal to accomodate the'L' pieces. I
speculated and agonized over them as well, but could find no reference to
them in any manuals or restoration photo's showing the frame with the glass
out. In the end I came to the conclusion that they must of aided the
fitting of the glass and seal at the factory by securing the lower edge and
prevent it from popping out before the whole assembly was fully in place.
The problem you will more than likely find is that the reproduction
seals will not have the little moulded slots and fitting the glass will be
virtually impossible with the 'L' pieces still in place. I removed mine by
drilling out the pop rivets and plugging the holes. I had no problems
fitting the glass and seal and have had no trouble since.
By the way my car is a Mkll (LE 21533) I don't think the little blighters
were fitted to all cars.(Maybe Triumph had a one armed windscreen fitter
employed for awhile)! This could be a cue for another 'mysterious
components' competition, over to you Glen!
                               Regards Russ Brown.
