jacking point / transmission question

This seems like a stupid question, but I'm going to ask it anyway. 
Can I safely jack up the rear of the Stag from the differential?

When the car is cold (after starting)and I engage into reverse or a
forward gear the car jerks (not sure of the correct word).  Any
suggestions?  Auto gearbox - btw
