Lumenition and Vacuum Advance

Arrrrggggggh!

Another frustrating day with the Stag.
I had noticed that the vacuum advance unit was not working, so therefore
bought another from James Paddock - part no: UKC 1674 (£25). I have noticed
that many other Stag specialists also supply this as the replacement part. I
tried to fit it today, only to discover that I can't get the unit to sit on
the side of the distributor. There is a gap of around 5mm. After further
investigation, I discovered that the base plate does slide, but stops going
the extra distance because the Lumenition head sensor fouls on a lobe on the
inside of the distributor casing. I can see no other way round it. Has
anyone got this set up or experienced this? I presume that the base plate
would go the extra distance if the conventional points were fitted.

The question is:-

Can I get away with modifying the existing arrangement, by packing the gap
between the dist body and the vacuum unit with washers and then using long
screws to secure it

Or

Should I pay the £47.15 for the 'genuine article' as supplied by the SOC.

All help appreciated.

Thanks
Chris
