RE: Manual overdrive gearboxes

Can you hear the Solenoid clicking, Jack the car up and see if you get
12 volts at the solenoid (to earth) when it's engaged. Of all the
overdrive problems I've had over 95% have been electrical with over 85%
being dodgy wiring, gear stick switch or Inhibitor switch.

The only overdrive units I've had fail, have been the type when you know
you've got a problem (ie free wheels in overdrive etc...). However are
you sure there's enough oil in the box for the overdrive to function?

Just out of curiosity is it an A' type or a J' type overdrive?

	Hi all

Seeing as how my overdrive has never worked since I bought the
stag and it
appears to be correctly wired, I propose the following
questions.

In this groups humble opinion, which is more likely to stop
working first,
the overdrive or the solenoid ?

Also is there any way to test the solenoid without removing it
from the car,
or is that the only way ?

If anyone has had this sort of experience how did you resolve
the problem ?
New solenoid ? or gearbox and overdrive out !?
