Head tightening sequence

You can use the thicker head gaskets as you describe.

Grease the inlet manifold gaskets before you fit them.

The two heads (studs and nuts) and all inlet manifold bolts should all be
done up finger-tight only.

Nip the inlet manifold bolts lightly with a spanner.

Then progressively torque up BOTH the heads (studs/nuts and bolts)
tighteneing them all to 20lbf ft, then 40, then to 55.

The correct sequence is to torque the studs/nuts first, then the bolts
afterwards working out from the centre.

Finally torque up the manifold bolts to 20 lbf ft.

Contrary to what you might be told, the heads should be re-torqued at about
1,000 miles. To do this, release all head bolts and nuts by one flat (60
degrees) in reverse sequence, then retighten to 55lbf ft.

This work must be done with the engine cold.
