Pedestal Gasket ?

I thought I would ask this question during a boring Friday afternoon.

When I removed the pedestal and carbs from the inlet manifold I noticed
that there was a gasket aswell as an O ring. In the Parts Book and ROM
there is no gasket shown. The gasket looks to be a `proper part' rather
than a home made one.

Should there be a gasket ?
