Yep, I thought about tyre wear. But lets look at it in detail.
It could be up to  5.4 mm off the rolling radius assuming we start with 7mm
tread.
My axle height was 12 inches or 305 mm. So 5.4 mm is 1.77% which is almost
exactly the amount my speedo is fast.
You may have a point there Mr Wattam because my back tyres have a full 7mm
tread.
