Sticking Windows
Hi All
There is a new Lubricant called Krytox which is used by Rover to assist with
MGF window judder. Its available as a paint on gel, an aerosol or a grease
syringe. Get it from Rover Dealers parts departments, or in USA.
Part numbers CYK 100050 Gel, CYK 100070 Aerosol, (With tube), CYL 100040
Grease. All items are £18.38 plus tax, in the case of the gel, for a small
amount, but its enough to do two or three cars windows, a little goes a very
long way. The gel must be painted into the channels on the bottom of the U
section only, not good to get it on anything but the edge of the glass. Of
course if there is another problem, like badly earthed window motors, or weak
motors, or something wrong with the glass or frame, it will not solve that. If
your window operation varies according to climatic conditions, there may be a
case for it. You will have to remove the door trims to get at the full length
of the channel.
It can also be used very sparingly to quieten any squeaks between plastic
surfaces, like on mine the cowling around the steering column. It is OK with
plastic, rubber metal and leather.
