=I don't know if there are any 727 to AMC 232 applications out there.
=snipq=

Willy, should be a 232/727 if its a 72 232.

(below info was posted last week, Subject: Re: [ihc] 401's)

Pre calendar year '72 AMC 6 cyls used a different sized bell,
smaller, than '72 and up AMC 6 cyls.
Pre '72 IH used a BW trans with the AMC 6 cyl.
'72 up IH used the 727 with AMC engines.

From:
http://www.gremlinx.com/AMC-Transmissions.htm
and other sources.

1971 - 258 introduced by increasing stroke of 232 to 3.875".
232 continues.
1972 - Transmission bell housing pattern of six changed to
be the same as the V8. Previous models used a smaller bell
housing pattern.

All '72-up (calendar year) AMC sixes and V8's have the
same bellhousing bolt pattern. Bellhousing for all engines
changed '72 when AMC went from BW to Chrysler transmissions.
The bell for 6 cyls changed to match the V8 in '72.

199-232-244-258 shared basically the same block.

The 258 was designed by American Motors in the late 60?s
and first put into Jeeps and AMC production cars in 1970.
The 258 is the same block as the 232 with a crankshaft with a longer stroke.
