That seems to be common in the IH people I meet.  Generally considered
eccentric and many have a cantankerous initial persona.  Until they
realize you aren't after their Scout for the axles to put under your
Jeep and don't have plans to put a 350 in it.  When they find out you
just want to talk IH and maybe trade some parts, they warm right up.  

I guess I've gotten that way too. My price when kids around here ask if
my 800 is for sale is $6000.  Probably really only worth $1500.  You
should have seen me snap at a contractor who was at my place when he was
eying my stash of Scout axles.  "You know Jeepers will give $800 for a
pair of those?".  "Yes I do, they aren't for sale"
