RE: [ihc] Scout gas tank in pickups

I dislike the factory IH tanks because they like to trap mud on the top
side and then rust everything out. One of mine will only take 6 gallons
(I think it is a venting issue) and I would remove it if I could get 33
gallons worth of weight over the rear axle. That would allow me to
still use the factory tank switch and save me from having to drag a fuel
hose across the hood. Luckily I get ~8mpg and normally don't take real
long trips with it. I kinda have a rule that I run on the tank that
will take 15 gallons until it craps out on me, switch to the little tank
and then start casually looking for a decent place to fuel. I fill them
both and switch back to the big tank. This usually gets me 150 miles
between fill ups. The furthest I have taken it was to the Sunflower
event which is 300 miles each way.
The more I get thinking about it, a new 33 gallon tank costs about the
same as a farmer/construction style bed tank that will hold considerably
more than 33 gallons and wouldn't cause me to have to re-do my hitch.
'course the farmer tank wouldn't have a fuel gauge and would take up
bed space but might just gravity feed the carb if you had to.
Decisions, decisions! I may just have to see which one falls in my lap
first. I'm thinking that in this area it will probably be the bed style
tank.

Ed,
I think Tom might have been thinking of the 33 gal
Scount tank in the back as an addition to the
15 gal he already has. And perhaps adding the
optional 15 gal to the other side. 60+ gallons
@6 MPG, now he would have at least decent, though
not extreme range!

Nothing like have the gas station do a credit check
before you fill up...
