[ihc] Alts, Starters and small pulleys.

Bob,
That's awesome! The local alternator shop near my house (known in
the area to be really good) wants $55 to rebuild a starter and $50 for an
alternator last I checked. They looked at me like I had three eyes when I
asked for a small double pulley for a 10SI. Glad it worked out for you.
I'm going to call them right now to see what's up.

Just called again, they say that starters are $55 to rebuild. Alts are $37
to rebuild, $94 new for a 94A three wire, and $89 to upgrade my existing
10SI alt to 94A. The guy says you need a self exciting somesuch in order
to make a one-wire, but that's not what I read from MAD Online. All
rebuilds are 1 yr. guarantee.

Incidentally (and the main point?), the pulleys are $8.95 ea. from them and
I paid $10 ea.

I encourage anyone with the big pulley to go to the small one as it gives
more juice at low RPMs and the only drawback seems to be that the alt turns
faster at high rpm. But, even at high RPM, our beloved IHs aren't running
close to the high RPM of a Chev or the like, so we ought to be good, no?

I went to the local alternator shop and asked for GM p/n 1852856, small
diameter 10SI Alt. Double groove pulley. $5 cash - seemed good to me...
