You hit the perverbial nail on the head.... no rear shocks from what I
remember.  I think it's something about if the suspension doesn't move any,
you don't need shocks! ;)

You have a steering damper?  Seems like you could make something work
there... just don't use a gas charged shock!  And be aware that one not
meant for a steering application might feel different in one direction than
the other...
