Shouldn't be a particular issue with towing. A dropped or adjustable
insert should do the job fine. I did already get the tube installed in
the existing hitch (ahh, which was already at 18"!) but haven't added any
new inserts to my collection yet.

Yup, that's about what it takes. Actually, I just got a letter from
Washington stating the equivelent of "we can't and won't do
anything"....and Florida decided "that's good enough". Just gotta get the
truck to the DMV's VIN inspection specialists (about a hours drive) on
Monday.

Well, and track down the last titled owner and get a Power of Attorney
signed by him (forgot to sign one of the 3 spots..). Bought the truck
from a friend-of-a-friend of his (as it turns out) and they're all
claiming they can get ahold of him..but nothing yet. I haven't worked
hard along those lines, pending washington's response about their typoed
VIN. (dropped the second B from B132SB<chassisnum>..etc.) Now that I have
that, and Florida seems willing to accept it...time to kick butt.

Anyone in the greater Seattle area know Okey Akers? :) Actually, I've got
a few good friends up there who can do some foot work if need be.
