[ihc] RE: Gasket striptease
Sounds far too easy, therefore it can't possibly work ;).
A nice sharp 'shorty' putty knife in careful hands makes quick work of
gasket residue. I hone the end of mine on a stone before going in.
Lest anyone think me a complete Luddite, I have fully embraced the 3M Roloc
surface prep discs for cleanup *after* scraping. In fact, I bought another
cheap die grinder so that the Roloc arbor is always ready to go. A little
tip - when the disc loads up with gasket material, give it a shot of spray
brake cleaner and spin it against a wire brush for a bit(don't breath
;) )Greatly prolongs disc life. Also, best surface finish is achieved by
running the discs as fast as you have air for. They'd be next to useless at
lower RPM, air tools only need apply.

John,
I was in Pep Boys the other day looking through the Permatex selections
when I saw something new. It was called Strip Away, or something like that.
Made by Permatex, it removes all gasket making material, silicon, ect,
including, Right Stuff! Smear on and five minutes later wipe away with a
rag! Haven't tried it yet, but; if the same people who make the Right Stuff,
make the antidote for it, it must work.
