Dave-
3/4 ton minimum for the trailer w/5800 lb load. I would even go to a
140/1300 if one was available.
The difference between a half and 3/4 ton IH pickup is the same as for any
other make, with one important difference. It's nearly impossible to find
brake drums for the IH trucks, and the available 16 inch wheels are split
rim unless you buy custom.
Any IH pickup can handle that speed. Towing capacity will be limited only by
suspension and braking capacity. No pickup truck engine found in anything
that old will have any trouble with the load simply because the same engines
were used in larger trucks as well. IH didn't make cars, so unlike chevy and
ford, they didn't make car engines. The 6 and 8 cylinder trucks you will
find in those years are all medium duty truck engines. Notable exception:
Light half ton trucks from 63-68, model 900 series.
