[ihc] Some cool led dash and marker lights
However, due to their longevity, they could be the last bulbs you
ever buy for the vehicle. It would knock back the tedious task of
replacing dash lights by several years or more. You could also tailor
your bulb selection to the application, and put in a bulb with a more
focused beam (for example, in the parking lights, so that all the light
generated is aimed out the lens, rather than being aimed back toward the
reflector. That would make the light seem slightly brighter. Also,
since they use less power, if all your bulbs were LED, you would be less
likely to leave the parking lights on by accident and come back later to
a dead battery. Be sure to for the rice effect, and put in a set of the
purple or green LEDs too, or one of those bulbs that blink three
different colors. :-)
If I was to do something like that, I would buy a couple pair,
and wait for the old bulbs to burn out before changing them. On a light
with a faded red or amber lens, I would also install a red or amber bulb
to make the lens seem less faded when lit. If a person wanted to use
them in the dash, the question I would have is whether they function
properly with the dimmer switch? Or are they like the fluorescent lights
I have seen where they are either on or off, with no modulation
available? Another way they would be an improvement in the dash (if they
do modulate) would be the fact that they burn cooler. I have taken apart
a lot of instrument clusters to find the gauge plastic melted because
someone put in a bulb that burned too hot. These would be a good
replacement for the lower intensity 158 bulbs too for that very reason.

"only?" I was thinking they were fairly expensive by the time you change
all the bulbs..
