[ihc] Wiper arms

I'm having a problem with my windshield wipers. The PO made some
modifications/improvements which, naturally, complicate matters a bit.
This is a '74 RHD Scout II.

First, the part of the windshield frame that the wipers connect to (call
it the "cowl") is not stock. It's from a LHD truck (the RHD cowl was
cracked, so he got a LHD one) and he redrilled it to do the job. Also,
the arms have been modified. It looks like the stock arms were cut and
retrofitted with a standard "bayonet" style connector for the wiper
blade. It works fine on the RH (i.e. driver's) side, but not on the LH
side. On the LH side the bayonet is too small, so a small plastic
filler piece is used to "beef up" the bayonet to "normal" size.

It doesn't work very well. The first 2 (or 3) blades I installed fell
off (they literally broke off) until I finally got one that was stout
enough to last (surprisingly, it was the cheapest blade I could find -
$2.44 at Wal-mart) but there is still a problem with clearance. It hits
the rubber at the top of the windshield.

I called the PO up and he recommended I get an "Anco 4102" which, if I
understood correctly, is a replacement arm. He said that the difference
with the "Anco 4103" was the spline count. (Bottom line - he couldn't
remember what he did to the truck since it was so long ago. So he was
kind of guessing at what the right part was.) He thinks my passenger
arm has a lower spline count than my driver arm, so he said to go with
the smaller arm (i.e. 4102 instead of 4103).

I can't find an Anco 4102 on any of the websites I've checked. I can't
stand the bayonet style connector (especially the undersized one...) and
want something else. Preferably the now standard "J" (hook) style. But
I'll even take a stock Scout II setup since new blades are, apparently,
available for that. The bayonet style is the most ill-conceived concept
I've seen and I'll be glad to be rid of it.

Can anyone tell me what an Anco 4102 is? Or about replacment arms that
will work (allowing me to retire the bayonets)?

Thanks,

Dave
