[ihc] towing

got a question to the group.

Has anyone noticed any difference between a 1/2 ton and a 3/4 ton in handling
while towing another vehcile? This question could regard a Ford, Chevy, Dodge
or our beloved IHC, Travelalls, Suburbans or pickups. I just returned from a
500 mile towing run from Tucson to my house in S Cal. The trip was at the
least discomforting. My TA has had an unfortunate life in the hands of former
owners. Some clown hit something hard enough to twist the frame up front on the
driver side. My truck doesn't track well and towing another vehicle only
exaserbates the poor handleing. Every time a truck passed me close or a bus or one of
those huge RVs, my truck just wanted to get sucked into the slip stream of
the beast passing. The pucker factor was sky high during these moments and even
worse when there were cross winds.

I could actually feel the frame twist when some big RV passed me. A 3/4 ton
or 1 ton have a stiffer frame and I was wondering would a stiffer chassis
(stiffer springs too) help when towing. My TA pretty much felt like a rubber band
but it is also 33 years old. I'm sure its loosend up some in the past three
decades.
