i've never even seen what you're talking about, but i think i've got a vaque
recollection of hearing about them before, years back. i can't imagine
having a wheel like that. two pieces for the centre? why would anyone
build a wheel like that? mine are regular splitrims with solid centres and
a locking split ring on the outside edge for the singles, and the locking
ring on the wheel mounting surface side of the duals. i wouldn't know where
to begin looking for wheels like what you've described... nor would i want
to. they *sound* dangerous. i'll keep the splitrims i've got, thanks.

boy, that's the truth. when it came time to get new tires for my
TravelAll... the greatest selection of tires are in teh 15" size, with a
somewhat smaller selection for 16"... and basically *nothing* for 16.5",
especially in 33". unless, of course, you go to Goodyear and start looking
at three hundred dollar apiece tires. shoot, that's what our post HMMWVs
use, except they seem to vary from one truck to another between 36", 37",
and 38".

did i miss something? what does hardfacing the inside surface of worn drums
where the shoes contact them have to do with the backing plates? i just
wanted to know if i could build up the inside of a drum with a welder and
then turn it back down to the right diameter on a lathe. how does that have
anything to do with what the backing plates are made of?
