[ihc] 12" clutch problems in Scout II AGAIN!

Binders,
Well, this weekend, I finished up a year long project...Almost. I
finally put the driveshaft in and filled the Trans and Transfer with 50wt.
oil. Summary: 1974 Scout II 345/T19W/D300/3.54s/33-12.50-15

After installing the 12" clutch with the greasable throwout sleeve
(all the zerk-equipped sleeves I've seen have been end-drilled to grease
the throwout brg.) I noticed that the three clutch actuating fingers were
significantly depressed. Well, that didn't bother me much, I didn't think
much of it. Then I put the throwout collar on and put the rig back
together.

      The problems:
The bolts that mount the 12" clutch assembly (6 around the outside)
seem to be hitting something. Each bolt head has a small impact mark like
there is something in the top of the bellhousing that is close tolerance.
Anyone else?

The clutch had to be adjusted a huge amount before the throwout brg
would even touch the fingers. When it does, the throwout brg is about 2"
forward of its full-back home position (begin to worry)

The clutch, when depressed, does not seem to unload the geartrain,
and still grinds now and again if the operator is not careful. If the
clutch is depressed too far, it makes a grinding noise and the geartrain is
once again -not- unloaded...

The rear mount for the Trans seems to be about 1" further back than
it did for the T18. I don't yet have enough room on the crossmember to put
the rubber insulators in so I had to drill another set of holes and I
currently have an appropriate(?) sized piece of 1"x4" as my rear mount.
I'm not exactly sure how to move a crossmember back 1".

Other than that, the T19W, and D300 are incredible! I can get out of the
truck look it all over, lock the hubs, talk to a friend, twiddle my thumbs,
and then get back in about 4 feet later!

Anyone have ideas on the clutch issues? I think the problem lies
entirely in the fact that the three clutch actuating fingers are way down
in there when the clutch is all mounted up.

Thanks!
