i've never been to the K&N website or looked at anybody else's information
or recommendations for air filters, so we're in uncharted territory for me.
when i needed to replace the filters in both the 1110 and the 800A, i just
bought what NAPA had on the shelf that their books listed as a replacement
for the OEM filter. the elements are a WIX relabeled NAPA unit, if i
remember right. they were actually a little taller than 2.5", but they got
a little squished fitting into the airbox to clear the hood. the stock
airboxes on all my trucks have clearances for a 10"x 2.5" filter element, no
smaller and no larger.

i don't do a lot of high-rpm driving, the on-post speed limit is 35mph or
less and i haven't been on the highway since we've been here, other than a
single trip out to McGregor Range behind a slow-moving Army bus in a convoy.
but driving out here from CA via Prescott Valley AZ (put about 1600 miles on
the TravelAll that trip), with a brand new filter from NAPA, TravelAll fully
loaded down with kids and gear and animals, towing the Scout which was also
loaded down, i didn't notice any breathing problems. just the usual low-rpm
gutlessness thanks to that aftermarket cam. i do drive the 800A around post
a lot in first and second gears (it has no mufflers and is quite loud)
because it annoys the Fort Bliss civilian police (yes, i know it's a little
childish, but i'm like that sometimes, it's my demonstration of annoyance
for being stopped for inspection EVERY TIME i come on-post with one of my IH
trucks), and haven't noticed any breathing problems there either.

as for how it looks... i don't know, just seems kinda normal. the filter
elements are inside the original equipment airboxes, so i can't even see
them without taking the top off the airbox. they look pretty okay to me.
the airboxes themselves are pretty large, in my opinion. big enough that
they have a recess on the front portion to clear the thermostat housing.
granted, they're not as tall as the oil bath air cleaners from my first two
304s (1965 and 1966) and my BD220 (1960)--i still have all three air
cleaners--but those won't clear the hood on the Scout or TravelAlls, either.
