[ihc] re: IH shipping
Regarding how to send heavy things, I'm in the process of shipping a set
of heads and a camshaft from the Minneapolis area to the Seattle area to
someone who bought them from me on ebay. With the plywood box I built,
it weighs in at 130 lbs. The cheapest method by far is simply Fedex
Ground (which is separate from fedex nextday or fedex freight). Cost is
$76, door to door.
USF Freightways' bid was over $300, as they wanted to strap it to a
skid and charge the skid price. In effect, I could have shipped the
whole motor by USF almost as cheap as the heads, but I'm sure that
there's already a good supply of scrap iron out there.
