Cabin Temps
Just a little bit of trivia for those that've experienced this..
We drove my '74 200 Travelette from Helena to Frisco, CO, where it was
trailered to RMIHR (Salida) and then to Aurora.. then drove it back to
Frisco (Breckenridge), Leadville (10,200ft), then to Moab, UT, and up I-15
and home.
Ambient temps were 100+ a lot of the time.
I had my infrared "touchless" thermometer with me and did a few spot
checks along the way.
Trans tunnel and driver's floorboard/firewall? 140-degrees. No wonder I
was stuck to the seat.
Here's the good news. Before we left, I had bought some "Reflectix"
insulation.. OK, I bought a windshield sunscreen and slapped it on the
passenger floor.
Michelle's floor temp? Ambient. 90-100, depending on where/when/how hot
outside.
So after the 140-deg floor drive to Moab, Robert Searles suggested I do
the same to my side.. I went one better, and for another <$10 bought a
jumbo windshield screen, and cut it in half.
Half on my floor, half over the trans tunnel.
MUCH better.. ambient on my foot-area, her foot-area, and the tunnel between.
Just behind the insulation? 140F.
Reflectix resembles aluminized bubble-wrap. You can buy it by the roll at
the hardware store, or buy a sunscreen for $7-$10 at Walmart or the parts
store.
I'm pondering securing some of this permanently either to the underside of
the floor, or on the interior floor/firewall, with carpeting over the top.
I'll also be adding a better sound barrier at the same time.. but the
"Reflectix" makes a HUGE improvement in radiant heat insulation.
