Thanks to Howard, TRE, and Mike for quick responses and help.

Howard beat everyone to the punch with the suggestion to check the turn
signal switch.  As soon as he said it, I slapped my forehead.  A real "DUH"
moment.

I had to replace my signal stalk/cruise control lever anyway so I pulled the
steering wheel off and took the switch apart.  23 years of crud was keeping
it from making contact and everything worked fine once I cleaned it all up.
