Tranny seal
George,
Sounds as if your leak is in the right place. Besides this is the most
common 727 leak that I know of. I should write a FAQ section on this
leak. You do not need to drop the tranny. Drop the tranny pan, drop
the valve body, get the seal out of the top of the tranny housing, and
replace the seal. The hardest part for me was getting enough pressure
on the new seal to get it to seat. It's in an awkward place and we
ended up seating it by getting it started, putting a block on top of
it, and with a long extension pounding it in from up on top. Takes two
people and you need to be careful, but it really works OK. Replace the
valve body, the filter, the pan, hook stuff back up to the control
rod, fill with fluid and you're all set. The seal, by the way, is a
very readily available part.

My 727 tranny is leaking pretty bad. I've tracked the leak
down to the cooler send and return, gearshift control, throttle lever
area.(Drivers side middle of tranny) John H. suggested to someone else
awhile ago that the control seal may be leaking. Can this seal be
replaced without dropping the tranny? Is it accessible after dropping
the
pan? Has anyone replaced this seal?
