How about - at speed and turning, or twisted and turning.

I put my Scout on the ramp at NWBRU, and it didn't rub.. but I can 
disconnect the anti sway bar and back up a moderately steep incline and 
turn the wheels (oh, like, if you wanted to make a tight 3-pt turn around 
on a trail with a hill on the side) and BRRRPPPPP on the fender lip every 
time.  Scary the first time you hear that!

Rear meaing going up backwards?

I scored 810 forwards at NWBRU with 33s on my Scout and the 4" Softrides.

I think that helped me.. I was able to get a little farther forward 
before the tire came UP off the ground.. you can spin before it's "UP" if 
you have little weight on a tire.

A friend of mine has been working at a 4x4 shop in Bozeman, MT for fun.. 
more to shoot the s**t and work on his rig.. naturally, a bunch of, 
a-hem, "poser" Jeeps come through a lot (Bozeman *IS* a college town, 
y'know), and everyone's upgrading their YJ Wrangler flares to the 4" 
wider Xenon flares.. and they discard the old ones.

He had a set of rear YJ flares that are going on his CJ7.. I borrwed them 
momentarily to put 'em against my Scout's fenders.. 

He's going to grab a set of the rear fenders (they're like a trapezoid, 
but w/o a bottom, vs. round like CJ5 flares, and NOT the front flares).. 
well, two sets (4 total).  I'm going to see how the YJ flares work on the 
Scout after I cut some fender lip.. You and I already discussed a little 
about notching the inner fender lip and moving it 'up' to be flush with 
the main top of the inner fender, and then cutting the outer fender to 
match (probably just above the "flange" on the outer).

The YJ flares mount to the "face" of the fender, not to a folded under 
lip like SII flares do.

Now I need to decide how I'd attach the inner and outer fender together 
after I cut the bolt together flange off.. good thing I have a few extra 
sets of fenders around. ;)

Hmmm.. bend the outer fender lip over 90-degrees at the top to match the 
flat horizontal portion of the inner fender.  Make 'em overlap, and tack 
weld some nuts to the back side of one or the other.  You could still rub 
a little on the bolt heads, but use some low-profile setup to keep that down.

Not *quite* as simple when you get to the forward or rear corners of the 
front fenders..

The rear is an easy cut job since there's only an outer to deal with.

Maybe I'll put YJ flares (or even larger TJ flares) on the racer to help 
cover up the full width rear axle..

BTW, I wasn't really after "flares".. but some way of covering up cuts 
that would look clean.. 

We'll see.
