I do not think it is wishful thinking--try for a 1600-1700-1800 school bus
with a 345/392 and an Allison AT 540/545!! These exist, and are common in
bone yards. This Allison was definitely an SAE #3 converter housing flange!

Plus--if you git your A-618 out of a 4x4 Cummins/Dodge, I believe that the
adapter flange for the late NP/NV transfer cases is the same, and that the
output shaft spline is also the same, as a Jeep style D-300 case! I THINK
(??) al you need to do is drill new bolt holes , indexed differently in the
mounting flange , so as to get the tc drop angle in the right place (and on
the right side, not the commie side)!

Have not had my paws on this stuff yet, to check it out--need to confirm
that the Cummins A-618 is indeed an SAE #3 converter housing, need to check
out the output spline in person, etc.

And , also beware--some A-618's are also known as RH47's, other later ones
(after '95??) are known as RE47's. The RH's are hydraulic control for the
first three gears--and a solenoid for OD and the converter lockup. The RE's
are all solenoid control. There are also some Cummins around with
A-518's--still a 727 based tranny, but less planets per set, and less
clutches per pack than the 618's--but prolly just fine for a 392.

A-518 and A-618 ratios are 2.45, 1.45, 1.00, 0.69. I THINK that the
aftermarket gearsets for a 727 (2.77, 1.55) will go into a 518/618, but not
yet sure of that, either. I also THINK that GV now has an adapter for the
back of 518/618's. With the wide ratios, the GV (.79:1)makes an almost
perfect splitter for it, and 4.56 or 4.88 r&p ratio would be a _VERY_ LONG
highway gear in double OD!!
