800 Tops, Stupid Laws, DIHxie

Hey folks. Just thought I'd chime in with some "me too's."

As for the 800 top: I used Paul's method (squat, lift, tilt etc.) on my
800 a few weeks ago. Even with the bulkhead supports off (you know, those
angled things attached with rusty one-way screws?) I scratched the sh*t
out of my taillight caps. Next time I'll slip some STIFF cardboard under
the edges for sure. The one thing I did right, though: I made a
cardboard "runway" from the tail of the Scout to the storage area and
dragged the full top *upside down* to its resting place.

As for stupid laws: I've lived in Maryland, New York, Washington DC,
Illinois, Mississippi and now Georgia. The only states in this list that
didn't have stupid, hobbyist-punitive laws are the last two. However,
with all the growth in the South I'm sure these will get yuppified too
and things will change. (Disclaimer: I'm an IT professional with an SUV
and two Scouts. I guess I'm an ally AND an enemy :-) Maybe we're all
destined to suffer these idiot laws at some point, but I'll be voting my
opinions as best I can in the meantime to prevent the inevitable
sterilization of my town. Long live old iron and personal freedom!!!

Lastly, if anyone's keeping a Charlotte tally, don't forget to count me
in. I can't wait!

Later,

Alan
