304/T19/D300 swap



OK Ihers,
A little update on my fiasco.
I got all the clutch linkage up and linked.  Only one minor glitch, no clutch, at least the pedal wasn't working it.  I thought perhaps the throw out bearing was different, Scout vs truck.  So I pulled the inspection plate to see what exactly was going on in there.  The linkage was working the bearing to and fro, but not in far enough.  I thought I had the wrong throw out as someone on the digest had suggested the possibility of a different bearing truck/scout.  So I compared to the Scout diesel throw out.  Exactly the same.  I'm assuming now that I installed the throw out fork onto the throw out shaft bass ackwards.  But before I started tearing into it AGAIN, I drove it around the block.  All four gears are there, thrid and forth were a little tough to get into, at least compared to the '77.  It also seemed a little doggish, maybe it needs to be tuned in a little?
Anyway, Sunday, it took me about 3 hours to get everthing in the engine bay apart and ready to lift, now all I have to do is dive under and drop the tcase and crossmember.  My technique, which seems to be pretty quick and not so dirty, is to pull the engine and tranny as one and seperate them on the floor.
Yes, this will be the third time...NO snickering!
I plan to publish my results of campatability issues when I get it right.
It will be about 0 tonite, rolling around on a cold garage floor with no heat at 0 degrees is not so appealing, it think its going to warm up as the week progresses.
I will keep you posted, not that anyone cares.
I hope someone gets a kick out of my misfortune.
I have to laugh or I would go completely insane.
(In a soft monotone voice.....)Oh, I can't wait to find all these issues when switching the truck parts into the T'all in the spring.
