Tom tuned his carb??!!

Long night but...

I just put a different Holley 2300 model 7448 onto my '72 304V8 in my '77
Scout II. ;-)

I removed the #61 jets in the new carb and went for #59s this time (my
carb has 61s in now, but I had 58s for a while and noticed the loss of
power, but picked up 3mpg highway (13mpg vs. the 10mpg I've been getting))

Put it on... and off.. and on.. a dozen times.. I had to re-seat the jets
(it was sputtering out one side).. re-thread the fuel inlet.. double
check the float bowl was tight.. had to change out the needle & seat..
blah blah..

I think I also figured out how to adjust an accelerator pump.. gee, I've
only been fighting it for several months now..

The new carb has a black acc pump cam.. more aggressive than my old
carb. Now I can hit the throttle and it won't stall! There's still a
flat spot that it'll pause on.. but when I shift in a hurry the truck
doesn't lurch with each shift.. and if I take off gently in 1st and then
stomp it, it doesn't stall... then ROAR and chirp the tires.. it just
Giddyaps n' goes now..

Hmmm.. "idiot" Q... Something must be wrong tonight, I'm making sense of
so many things... the "rattle" that I've heard before and heard some more
tonight when I accelerate hard.. is not just a "rattle" but.. that's the
PING everyone's spoken about.. here I thought it was a rattle not a
ping.. ;-)

I'm running ~ 10 deg advance.. I also have about 16" of vacuum at 700rpm
idle..

Hopefully I can keep my foot out of the throttle and climb out of the
5mpg in-town dumps.. ;-)

I also finished the install of my hand throttle tonight.. finally had
soem stuff handy to finish attaching the cable to the carb.
