Canvas Top...16 Inch Wheels...More...

IHers,
Yesterday, I mentioned stumbling across Joel Brodsky's page and
images of his troop carrier canvas top. This is along the lines of a
look I have been wanting ...perhaps not so high, maybe halfway
between Joel's top and the standard Kayline or Bestop. I like the
more substantial hoop set and prefer to leave them up naked rather
than have a weaker fold down system. I also like the "square
shoulder" style of his top. This is a step in the right direction
for me ...I've got a couple of leads on a set of 16 inch wheels
(thanks guys!) ...I know it is cheapest to keep my 15 inch set
but I like the taller look of the 7.50x16 inch tire (radial
equivalent). I'm open to all discussion on this ...if you know the
16 inch to be much more costly and the look to be almost identical
with a particular 15 inch wheel size ...by all means, speak up! I
have yet to compare tire prices nor do I know a lot about tire aspect
ratios and such. I have sought a used cheap set of wheels as I want
to blast and galvanize them ...tired of painted wheels turning to
rust. Should I powder coat?

I understand 16 inch wheels were used on early Scout 80 models. Why
did they change to standard 15 inch wheels for the Scout2? Cheaper?
Axle (Dana 44) stresses too much with the larger wheel?

Well, by now you can seee that I want a bit of a military look to my
Scout2 ...I can do without the camo paint ...a taller narrower tire,
a useful good looking canvas top ...I think I can get there. Heck,
I may even move out the tomato plants this season and actually
DRIVE it ...just as soon as I can get it started.

Thanks for all your help! Mark

PS. Joel's page can be had through the IHC Web Ring ...check it out!
