In Scouts, IH only offered the "close" ratio T18 (4:1 1st, 2.4:1 2nd).
Ford used a wide T18.. maybe Jeep, too.

IH used the close and wide T19s.. Ford used a "mid" ratio T19 with ~ 5:1
1st (vs 6.32 and 4:1)

I have a close ratio T19 in my Scout II.. with 4.10s, 33s I routinely
use first to take off.. but if it's warmed up, and I'm pausing at every
intersection through some residential area, I'll just use 2nd.. but
first is used whenever I can.

Now, I didn't say I use 2nd gear for long... usually it's rev 1st, hit
2nd, punch it for just a second, and then to third...
