tranny HELP!

Allan and whomever.
I'm trying to replace the rear output shaft main seal. I pulled the
ball bearing and beat out the old seal. The old seal was actually a
double seal, one back to back with the other. The new seal I have has
one metal sealling surface and a lip that sits back in the back of the
seal. There is a long rubber seal portion that sticks about 1 1/2"
behind the sealling surface. The problem is that the ball bearing sits
almost right on top of this seal and there isn't room for the rubber
part behind it.
Now, it looks like the rubber is supposed to squash down under the
bearing. Is this correct? I don't want to install the thing unless I
know for sure.
