Ford Buying Navistar

I really don't think that there will be much of a chance of Ford buying
Navistar, since they have just purged their heavy truck division. It was
sold to Freightliner. I would think there would be a non-compete agreement
in force after the sale.
I know some people at F/L and they have been having a lot of trouble
getting the Sterling (what F/L calls the purchased Ford) brand up & running
due to quality problems. The F/L century class has had major electrical
problems but I've noticed that has been kept quiet as well.
The domestic Volvo truck operation is pretty small in comparison with the
rest of the industry. The numbers I saw YTD 3rd quarter were only 2,800
trucks built. I probably shouldn't start this thread but I have heard that
a Domestic owned leader in the truck market had some interest in the Volvo
nameplate. You fill in the blank. :-)

Subject: Ford Merger

Anyone else notice a similarity between our discussion of Ford buying
Navistar and the announcement that Ford is buying Volvo. If Ford had
wanted it, I'm sure Volvo Truck would have been available also, but
instead the truck division may merge with Scania. ( OTOH, maybe Ford
didn't want Volvo Truck so they could buy Navistar in the future.)

If Ford had purchased the truck operation, it would have been interesting
since Volvo includes the remains of GMC Truck as well--about like going
to your Case dealer for IH parts!
