Allan,
One of the first things I did when I bought my Scout 800 almost 2 years
ago when it quit running on me was to replace the rotor and dist. cap.
Me, being new to Scouts didn't know that there were different
distributers. I went to CarQuest (closest to me) and asked for a new cap
and rotor. The first question out of the guys mouth was is it a Holley or
a Delco. I had no idea, so I had to make the trip home to look. I found
that there was a stamp on my distributer base where it bolts into the
block. It was stamped Delco, so I went back and got the appropriate cap
and rotor. I would look there if I were you. My cap has the 2 screws
that hold it down, but they aren't quite screws, they are a spring-loaded
"L" that uses the base of the "L" to hold the cap into place. 1/4 turn
with a screwdriver is all that you should need.

But it sounds like you have the same cap that I have, which is the Delco
style. I think the rotor is held on by 2 Phillips head screws, but I
don't remember for sure.

A couple of tips. Check your point gap if you weren't planning on it. I
don't know how to do it for sure, but I am sure the manual tells you how.
You might need to replace the points and the condenser while you are at it
too. The main thing to remember though, is which way the rotor goes (I
don't remember if you can put it on backwards or not, but do remember!),
and which plug wire goes where. I think I ran into some trouble with my
plug wires being put on the wrong place.....:)

Sorry I don't have part numbers for you, but I got everything at CarQuest.
NAPA should be about the same service. I don't even consider AutoZone
anymore, they don't carry anything for my Scout except maybe oil, and
they are on the other side of town. I do have an extra set of points and
a condenser around, so if you need those p/n's, let me know.

HTH.
