Re: Rear Bumper + Towin'

Tom:

I saw a book entitled something like "How to Engineer a Trailer" at
Amazon.com yesterday while doing a search.

On top of that, I should tell you that a fellow RVer from Austrailia
contacted me and he devised his own 'toad" brake system that was a copy of
the "Tow-V-Aire" system. He used a former LP bottle to hold compressed air,
bought a hydraulic ram and made a "quick mount" setup so that the ram went
between his floorpan and brake pedal and operated the brakes. He said it
worked great and he only spent a few hundred Austrailian on it.

But, he has yet to tell me how he plans to operate it proportionately to
the brakes on the towing vehicle. That's the real trick.

The "toad" systems that are out there only cost about $400. But, they are
air operated so you need a source of compressed air on the towing vehicle
if it has hydraulic brakes. That is where the other $400 of the $800 total
comes in. For a compressor and tank and regulator on the towing vehicle.
