Scout went dead

Hi guys,
I usually just lurk here absorbing your knowledge. Now I need your help.
My Binderbulletin query got 90 looks and 1 response to the effect it was
gas line freeze. I don't know, interested in what you think:
"Traveler the Invincible"(79,345,AT)let me down Fri night, 75 miles from
home, 10 below, far from civilization, it was a dark and stormy night, etc.
Cruisin' along at a prudent 60mph when it just shut off. Dagger looks from
S.O.("You plan to drive this some round-up in Colorado?") Coasted to stop,
looked around under hood, tried it again, started right up. Went half
mile, stopped. Started, went half mile, stopped. This continued for five
miles to the nearest bar(luckily). Had beer, went out, started it, guy had
some HEET to put in, let it idle(the dog is a wuss) went in to wait for
ride, have beer. Ride gets there so I take off since, hey, it's still
runnin'! Went 8 miles, stopped, started, almost to cabin, stop. Now just
click when key turned. Chebby pulled me to cabin Sat.(Oh woe) Let sit, may
be in 20's this weekend.
Sooooo, if it was gas line freeze, its the starter solenoid now?
Would the fuel pump quit in stages? A chebby I had once ate fuel pumps,
but you didn't restart.
Was it the dreaded bulkhead connector? If so, how do you get the mutha
apart? And which one?
I need help in dealing with this traumatic loss of confidence in my baby.
