74/75 disc thoughts

I ran a few things by the BinderChat crew tonight regarding the '74 and
'75 IH Dana 44 front ends w/ disc brakes used in the Pickups and
Travelalls...

brought about my discovery of a '74 IH 150 4x4 front axle at the boneyard
today without hubs or rotors or calipers.. but spindles and axle shafts.

I know the rotors for the 74/75 Light Truck application are *spendy*..
the question still remains - *WHY*

One thought was that they used the internal hubs like Ford did.. which
may result in a longer stub-shaft n' such.. I think I saw an IH or two
with said hubs.. but I also saw a '70s Travelall with regular lockouts
like my Scouts sport (external style)

I assume that since IH and Ford used the same calipers (on the Scout II
and the F250) on Dana 44 front ends, then IH used the same calipers on
the Light Truck (Pickup/T'all) axles.

That would leave.. axle stub-shafts and hubs.. in which case, one could
swap the stub-shaft for a Scout II stub shaft (from a Dana 30 or '44) and
then use the Scout hubs. *if* that's the issue. Also, if it is, why
would you prefer the Pickup stub-shaft over the II?

The other option would be a different offset n' such with the spindle and
wheelbearings in the rotor.. in which case more work needs done, but it
still wouldn't be impossible.. it's be bolt-on parts from a Scout II to
convert a pickup front axle to use the more readily available Scout II parts.

No, I don't plan on changing the brake rotors on my racer very often..
but the axle in question doesn't have ANY brake parts now, and if I could
supply my racer with parts from someone's discards.. (rotors that are too
thin?... grooved? Pitted?...)
