Re: 1980 Diesel-What is it worth?

If your Scout is truly rust free I would say it is worth somewhere
between $3000 and $4500. This is what my copy of "Illustrated
Buyer's Guide to Classic 4X4s" says a V8 Scout II is worth. A
turbo diesel is probably worth about the same as a V8. The
diesels have a longer expected lifetime than the gasoline engines
and better fuel mileage, but are less popular in the U. S.

If your interior is in good shape and your engine compartment and
undercarriage are clean and look original, then you might be
justified in asking more than $4000. Any aftermarket parts you
have on the vehicle should look like they were installed
professionally. Off road tires are not really a good selling
point. They suggest to the potential buyer that the vehicle might
have been taken off road and suffered excessive wear and tear from
the experience.
