Kids, don't try this at home!

I went to move my Travelette today, but due to the leaking
gas tank, I figured I'd just run a hose from the fuel pump
to my 2-1/2 gallon gas can to run it enough to move it.
Well I only had a 4 foot piece of fuel line, so I ran it up
through the engine compartment, over the battery, and into
the gas can, which I duct taped to the hood. Well, it started
right up, and I let it warm a little. Then, I started hearing this
odd rubbing noise. I put it in gear and moved it a bit, but
it got louder when the engine torqued a bit. So I put it in
park and got out to have a look. Gas is pouring out the
front corner. I quickly shut it down, and removed the gas hose
from the gas can then, took the gas can off the hood and
opened it up. Hmm, it seems in my quest for an extra inch of
hose I pulled it so it ran right against the alternator pulley.
Engine, battery, exhaust manifold...all covered in gas.
It is out there evaporating now, good thing there were
no sparks or I would have had an early 4th of July.

Always use more than 4' of gas line when attempting such
operations! Anyone in the Seattle area have a right side
pickup fuel tank available cheap? I just as soon not
have to do it this way...
