Thanks very much for the advice and info.  My use is mainly "daily
driver" with the hopes to find the time to do some light off-roading. 
For this use I think the set up should be fine.  I could put the axles
from my '73 Scout II under it-a little wider/more stable, no?  However,
I think from your info that this would, in durability at least, be the
same axle, so why bother?  Thanks once again for all of your help.
