At the risk of being called on the carpet for repeating myself, why don't
you just run the wire from the ign. switch out to a Ford solenoid and use
that to replace the one on top of your ash tray, and for a hookup point
for any other wires that you need to have go to a good 12V source. These
solenoids are hell-for-stout and it will last many lifetimes.
