That's the thing- the max downshift RPM is supposed to be 2700 RPM... but
by my calculations I'm running about 2400 RPM at 60 mph. From the BB page,
I calculate that I would hit something like 3200 RPM if I downshifted, still
a reasonable amount of RPM headroom. Plus a 50% hp gain according to the
dyno curves.
I was climbing a steep hill at exactly 60mph with the thing floored but
sitting in high gear. It seems to me that it should have downshifted and
took me up to about 70mph. God knows it has more than enough power.
It's funny that I should worry about this, because that "hunting" situation
you can get into is one of the reasons that I don't like automatics. I
didn't kick the pedal or anything,, the hill just gradually got steeper and
my foot slowly went towards the floor.
Could this be deliberate? I mean, that's actually exactly what you
want...no hunting.. you only get a downshift when you "ask" for it with a
little kick. That's certainly how I would program a micro-controlled
tranny... it would certainly be kewl.
Maybe it works fine. I have to wait for an occasion when my wife is
asleep... she doesn't have a real good altitude towards expermentation with
horses in tow!
