Re: Diff Options?

Chris,
I've got Lock Rights in both diffs of my Scout, and I haven't had any trouble with
them. That said, the main reason I went with the Lock Rights was because they
don't alter the R&P setup, so I could install them myself. You'll be replacing your
R&P so they will need to be set up anyway. Another thing to consider is that
you can't install a lock right into a track-lock carrier. So you'll need to get an
open carrier first before you could install a Lock Right into it. Either a Detroit
Locker or an ARB replaces the carrier, so this isn't a concern (and this will
tend to reduce the cost difference between the Lock Right and the ARB or
Detroit, though a used open carrier shouldn't cost much). If it were me, I'd
decide how much I was concerned with the on-road handling quirks introduced
by a Detroit Locker, and use that to decide between an ARB and a Detroit (The
ARB is less reliable, due to the potential for problems in the air system, the
Detroit is bullet proof but introduces handling quirks on-road). I'd skip the Lock
Right for now (but think about putting one in the front diff) - you'll pay a little more,
but you'll have more peace of mind. I've realized over the years that I've regretted
money not spent about ten times more often than I've regretted money spent.
