The main thing is to be sure the exhaust system is tight.  That should 
take care of most of the problem.  It then won't matter about the body rust.

Now the liftgate.  With the liftgate open/gone you may suck fumes in the 
cab.  But maybe not.  Depends on the aerodynamics.  Scouts really do have 
aerodynamics, just not good ones.  Someone else can tell us if this 
happens.  If so then you need to close the lift gate hole.
