Unsolved Trannie mystery Solved in the 800

Hey with your help we captured the trannie id at 1:01 pm pacfic time
without incident

I pulled the bubble trannie inspection cover plate inside the 800 and found
to my (upset that I cant swap easy) dismay that the tannie ID numberes cast
into the housing
say T98-148H. This along with other spottings leads us to believe that
Scout 800s came with T-98 4 speeds. I thought only T-18 4 speeds were
available. Weird (erie music follows)

So QUESTION:
What are the main differences between a T-98 and a T-19 and can they be
swapped. If not what parts do I need to install a t-19? I know it can be
done as I got an e-mail from someone that did it but lost it. It makes
sense that if a T-18 was installed from the factory (mabey in a later
year??) that the identical cased T-19 can then be put in its place.

So lets get a response from all who have a T-18 or T-19 in their Scout 800
and what year it is. Then we will dissassemble their Scout get the part
numbers and make an faq entrie....;-)
