Lot's of manuals have instructions on how to adjust the steering gear
pre-lash and the other adjustment that can be done to Saginaw P/S boxes. In
my tenure as a muscle car restorer, it has been my experience that
replacing the "rag joint" and very carefully "tightening up" the P/S box
adjustments to spec, takes care of most steering wheel play in 60s and '70s
cars and trucks.
