Re: Starter and Towing



Mike,
   The starter problem could be two fold. One is the key switch at the
base of the column, the other is the relay up under the dash.
   The key switch gets corroded and gummed up and stuff and while it
passes voltage, the resistance is so high across the contacts that you
get that draw down , but no starter action. Solution: replace the
switch. Available at NAPA for about $20.
    The relay, no one really knows what it is there for, is under the
dash between the steering column and the ash tray. It has three wires
going to it. I am not sure which ones to jump, someone else will have to
chime in on this one, but; just jumper the two wires out and forget
about it.
