Alcan Springs
Watch any mail order dealings with Alcan Springs in Grand Junction CO. I
ordered a set of four inch springs from them for my 69 800 four years ago.
I asked them if they needed any measurements, eye to eye or height over the
axle or any tire or axle weights. They told me that they had all the
information they needed.
When I got the springs and pulled of the old ones, they looked almost
identical. I went ahead and installed them and got around two inches of lift.
When I called to ask about it, I was told that they had arched the springs as
much as they could without making them too short.
I explaned that I had asked if they needed any additional information such as
the measurements listed above and was told that you measured a spring along
the arc. I commented that the springs would have to be physically longer if
they were going to give any lift and it was like I was talking Greek to them.
They told me to bring the springs back and they would remake them to my
satisfaction, but that would have been a trip of 300 miles.
To get my four inches, I installed longer shackles and a 1 1/2 inch body lift.
To be fair, I have not had any problems with the springs. No sag and they flex
fairly well.
I do believe that they can do a good job with springs, but the truck should be
in their shop for the work.
